Aviation questions

What is plane spotting?

Plane spotting is the hobby of watching, photographing and identifying aircraft — usually from a public vantage point near an airport or under a busy flight path.

At its simplest, it's just noticing what's overhead. Many spotters go further, logging details like the aircraft type, its registration, the unique identifier painted on every airframe, and the date and location they saw it, building up a personal record over months or years. Others focus purely on photography, chasing a clean, well-lit shot of a particular type or a rare visitor to their local airport. Either way, it rewards patience: the best sightings usually come to those willing to wait out a quiet afternoon at the fence.

It's also a hobby that naturally produces something worth keeping — a hard drive full of shots of exactly the types of aircraft that hold your interest. The best of those shots deserves better than staying buried in a phone; turned into a framed aircraft print, it's the one souvenir of the hobby you actually see every day.
