Which photo works

Upload the original file, not a screenshot or a picture saved from a messaging app. Once it is uploaded, each size shows the sharpness your file gives it: 300 dpi or more is excellent, 140 to 300 prints well, and under 140 that size cannot be chosen.

Which photos and styles suit a canvas

Canvas has a texture you can see from across a room, and that texture does something specific: it reads as paint. Put the oil restyle on it and the illusion closes completely, because the brush marks in the artwork and the tooth of the surface are telling the same story. The watercolour gains almost as much, since a soft edge on a woven surface stops looking printed.

The same property works against you elsewhere. Fine line work sits on top of a weave rather than in it, so the blueprint and the line drawing lose their crispness here in a way that is obvious once you have seen it. Those two want flat paper, which is the poster.

Why a canvas print has no glass, and no glare

There's nothing in front of a canvas, so there's no reflection to position a lamp around and no bright rectangle across the picture at four in the afternoon. In a hallway, a landing or any room with a window opposite the wall, that alone decides it.

It also means the piece is quiet, which people don't expect. A large framed print announces itself; a canvas of the same size sits into the room. For a big picture in a room people live in, not one they pass through, that is usually what you want.

30x40 cm is a small piece that groups well with others and won't hold a wall alone. 40x50 cm is the first size that works on its own. 50x70 cm and 60x80 cm are the feature-of-the-room sizes, and 60x80 cm is the largest canvas.

There is a framed canvas too, at 30x41, 41x51 and 51x71 cm, in black, white, natural or brown. A slim frame goes round the stretched canvas and adds an edge. It comes without fixings for the wall. Live sizes and prices for both are on the formats page.

When will a canvas turn up?
It is stretched and printed for your order and arrives in 4 to 9 working days, with UK delivery included. The bag shows the same window before payment.
Can a canvas be returned?
Only if something is wrong with it. Made-to-order personalised work sits outside the usual right to cancel once we start it. Faulty, damaged or not as described: get in touch quickly and we'll replace it or refund you. Rejecting it for a full refund is open for 30 days, and the Consumer Rights Act applies after that too.
Does it need a frame or fixings?
Neither. The canvas is stretched over a 2 cm wooden frame.
Will fine line work look right on it?
Less well than on paper. The weave sits under the line and softens it, which is why the blueprint and the line drawing belong on the poster and the oil and the watercolour belong here.
